I went out on U Street one weekend and ran into this sweet man and his sweet vintage camera!

He is a professional photographer and his favorite subject to photograph is nature, but he said he makes the most money snapping portraits because "people are vain"

With that said I ponied up $5 to have my portrait taken with his time machine!

(Re)opening of Howard Theatre

Last night I attended the soft opening of the historic Howard Theatre here in Washington DC.

According to the website "...The Howard was America's first full-sized theater built for Black audiences and entertainers." The venue first opened in 1910 and closed in the late sixties after the D.C. riots. Famous black musicians like DC natives Duke Ellington and Marvin Gaye performed on the Howard Theatre stage and to honor this legacy DC rapper Wale was the first to perform in the newly restored space.

Thursday April 12 is the official Grand Opening and the Howard Theatre will host a benefit concert and gala.  "This event is a fundraiser to support the efforts to build the Howard Theatre Culture and Education Center to include the museum, recording studio, listening library, classrooms and donor lounge."

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Roots concert on April 16 and can't wait to see what other acts grace the stage at "The Howard"

Primp Work

What a busy weekend!  I volunteer with my sorority and for months I've been planning their annual Regional Leadership Conference, which happened this weekend, here in Washington, DC.
The event was a success and here is a look at the prepping (and primping) I did to get ready!
A cherry blossom themed shellac manicure in our sorority colors...

Had my brows tamed...I didn't want to frighten any of my sisters!

Got my hair did...the bigger the hair the more successful the event...right?

A sweet gift for some of the women that helped me with the event...
Gorgeous pink&green bouquets for the women that lead the workshops!
