Under $100 at Nordstrom

My friends and I are serious card carrying Nordy girls so when we heard Nordstrom Pentagon City was launching a new affordable version of their Savvy department we jumped at the chance to attend the launch party. A whole department full of trend focused brands where everything cost less than $100? Where do we hand over our Nordstrom debit cards?

We shopped til we dropped, buying up tons of going out and weekend wear pieces in Savvy (we are shopping for outfits for the Beyonce concert) and then discovering affordably priced work wear down in the Point of View department. We even got free personal shopping sessions with Stylist Yvonne in POV.

We made a day of it, having brunch in the Nordstrom Cafe and later we were treated to coffee at the Nordstrom Espresso Bar

Have you been to Nordstrom Pentagon City?

Army Green

You might remember a few weeks ago I posted about the TOAST: Beauty and the Brunch that was coming up. Well I stopped by the pop up beauty bar at the St. Gregory Hotel before the day party/brunch began. I got an amazing massage and there were artists doing makeup applications and manicures all for FREE!

I wore my some of my favorite weekend pieces including my camo skinny jeans part of Gap's new skimmer jeans collection. I paired these printed pants with a plaid StyleMint shirt, that reminds me of 90s grunge fashion, worn over a black tunic tee and cinched at the waist with a Topshop London Lettered belt; the last two items are from Topshop for Nordstrom, which can be found in the New Savvy Department. Of course my Dooney & Bourke bag "Miss Ivy" came along for the ride!

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming brunches from TOAST including a March Madness brunch  and later this summer a doggie brunch!

Isn't brunch the best meal of the day?

Meg Biram x Kate Spade

Last week I poped into the Kate Spade store in Georgetown, 1 of only 6 stand alone Kate Spade stores in the country, to attend the celebration of the company's 20 years in the business; the event was hosted by blogger Meg Biram. You have seen Meg before on WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

The first (and only) blogger seminar I've ever attended was her DC Blog, Biz, Buzz seminar where I wore these neon strappy sandals. I also attended her Get Sh*t Done seminar while I was in San Francisco...listen she's spreading her message from coast to coast! Her seminars are really inspirational and just the kick in the pants bloggers (of all experience levels) need to take their blogs to the next level. I'm really looking forward to some new projects she's got in the works to share her best practices with other bloggers. And speaking of the next level...Meg, like myself, is experimenting with makeup...how fierce is her red lip in this photo?!?

Meg partnering with Kate Spade is a perfect match; the brand's social media department is an industry leader with their innovative blog Behind the Curtain. And don't you love Meg's outfit? She's wearing the Checkered Lorelei dress and you'll spot this pattern throughout current collection...on umbrellas, purses, etc. My favorite item in the store was the Berry St Elise nylon tote because it was the most reminiscent of the classic boxy black Kate Spade bag i lusted after in the 90s. Do you own anything from Kate Spade?

CoverGirl Grammy Glam Party

I was so excited when I received a tweet from Yvonne Pearson, Features Editor for The Makeup Girl inviting me to a Grammy Glam Party sponsored by CoverGirl cosmetics. For Christmas I received a lovely set of makeup brushes from my sis so I've been experimenting with makeup, trying to wear it at least 3 days a week. This event was the perfect time to time to take my makeup routine to the next level. I was excited to try the CoverGirl 3-in-1 foundation, because not only do I have no idea how to apply foundation I also wouldn't know how to find my correct color!

Luckily Yvonne invited her bestie, a make up artist, who applied the foundation with great care and even gave me some tips on what types of foundation would be best for my skin. We live tweeted the Grammy's red carpet show, which included a Grammys Mani Cam showcasing fab manicures like that of CoverGirl Janele Monae. We snacked on an amazing spread including Georgetown Cupcakes, gummy bears (my favorite!) and toasted the night with bottles of bubbly!

The Hamilton

Restaurant Week just ended here in DC and I was able to hit up one of my favorite spots with a few blogger friends...The Hamilton. Located at the corner of 14th in F Streets, The Hamilton is in a prime location. Right around the corner from the White House and on the direct route from National Airport. The restaurant was open 24 hours originally, which was great for Hill staffers coming out of late night legislative sessions or Washingtonians up at odd hours on their way home from business trips.

DTLR

I guess there are some things that even a fourth generation native Washingtonienne doesn't know about this city. Like the fact that there is an local urban shoe and apparel store called Downtown Locker Room (DTLR) that has been based in Maryland for over 30 years and has 80 stores in Alabama, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, the Carolina's, Virginia and Washington, DC. The company is run like a hip hop record label with a full-time Street Team and Music Department.  The stores are closely tied to the community and offers "the latest CD's, DVD's, video games and tickets to exclusive parties and events."

White House Bowling League

So I didn't get to go to the Presidential Inauguration (yep still mad about that), but I took some amazing photos in a ball gown and as a consolation prize I got to join the White House Bowling League....for a few hours.

Fun fact: Technically there is more than one "White House Bowling Alley" The one we bowled in is actually in the EEOB (Eisenhower Executive Office Building) which is located next door to the actual White House and is open for use by the White House bowling league which formed a league under the Truman administration. There is a one lane bowling alley (the Truman alley has two lanes) in the basement of the actual White House, which was built by the Nixons who were big bowlers. I can now say I've bowled in the same alley is Richard Nixon...that's an accomplishment right?!? What did you do over the weekend?

Prabal Gurung for Target

Can I tell you how excited I am for #PrabalForTarget this high/lo retail collaboration is single handedly restoring the public's faith in the Target Designer collaborations, just when we thought the Target x Neiman Marcus debacle had ruined it. This time around Target went back to its roots with spot on pricing, a signature print carried throughout the line and the designer making pieces he is already known for...in this case girly dresses. The line went on sale online at 3AM and in-stores at 8AM and I think people will be able to grab what they want for the first few hours then most of the pieces will sell out. Get it while it's hot!

Peace OutFit

This is the last in my series of glimpses at my Wedge Sneakers and Sequins outfit from the FABB Girls Club Brunch. I hope you enjoyed hearing me gush about the amazingness that is The Rude Sweatshirt I got from Zara. Were you surprised to know that my vintage Ferragamo clutch was a Fashionable Family Heirloom or that my weekend wear includes a Washington Wizards knit cap? And how fab is my red J.Crew peacoat? Hope your weekend is as fabulous as it is fashionable...are you planning to wear anything special?

PEACE OUT...FIT!

Fashionable Family Heirloom

For Christmas I received a very special gift...this vintage Ferragamo clutch, last seen in yesterday's outfit post. Not only is Ferragamo a favorite designer of mine, but this bag was originally owned by someone in my family and I am so honored to have had it passed down to me. I'm trying to figure out the best way to take care of it, like having it cleaned every so often and storing it properly when I'm not using it. (I welcome your suggestions!) Have you received a fashionable family heirloom?

Wedge Sneakers and Sequins

WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

sweatshirtZara | pantsLOFT

There is really nothing that dresses up weekend wear like sequins and fancy shoes! These Nike Dunk Sky Highs are EVERYTHING! I'm not as tall as I'd like to be so these give me the few extra inches I need to be fabulous. And the sequin pants...well you might remember they are WHAT I WORE on New Year's Eve and I've been looking for the right moment to pull them back out so when Lauren of Haute Off the Press organized a FABB Girls Club brunch I knew I'd found the perfect excuse to rock sequins in the daytime. Something new on the blog this week! Scroll to the end of the post to find out what!
