RTR x Georgetown

WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

Gold Dust top | Windswept Skirt

(Badgley Mischka borrowed from Rent the Runway)

My typical New Year's Eve week includes a mad dash to Georgetown where I blow my entire budget on an expensive outfit I'll wear for one night and stuff in the back of my closet. This year since Rent the Runway has opened a store in Georgetown I have no excuse for a fashion emergency.

Union Market District

Last Friday after work I headed over to the Union Market District to check out the many events happening in this part of city.

First up was a paired down Thread, a curated pop-up shop featuring emerging clothing and accessories brands that debuted last Christmas. Held at Dock 5, an event venue just up the road from Union Market, this year's event featured DeNADA a cozy knit accessories company (hello #sweaterweather), Billy Reid a classic Americana brand, which has partnered with both JCrew and Coach, and Bang shoes whose profits are used to fund entrepreneurs around the world.

Lined up along 5th street, NE were a few mobile fashion booths where visitors could shop inside of an airstream trailer or DIY in a studio on wheels

As I made my way further down the street I stopped at Bidwell for a cocktail party hosted by Tracey Lomrantz Lester, Editorial Director at Gilt. She was in town for the twice-yearly GiltCity Warehouse Sale.

Over all it was another amazing night in DC!

Veteran's Day in DC

WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

scarf | sweatshirt | thermal | pants

Veteran's Day is such a great holiday, honoring those who have and are currently serving in the United States Military. Living in Washington, DC you sometimes get to do some exclusive things like bowling at the White Housemeeting a foreign dignitary or stopping by the monuments at 3am after a night out (this is my favorite thing to do when my friends come to visit).
This year for Veteran's Day HBO filmed a live concert in Washington, DC down on the National Mall. In the shadow of the Capitol Building stars like Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Rihanna sang songs in honor of our nation's military servicemen and women.
On an unseasonably warm November night we set up our blankets, brought snacks from home and enjoyed an amazing night under the stars. I feel so lucky to be a DC native, especially on nights like this one!

Monumental Zumba Wear

WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

c/o Zumba

I'm sure you're tired of my gushing about the Paris Beauty Tour but let me share one more thing...when this amazing Dance Dance jumpsuit arrived from the new Zumba wear collection I knew it would be the perfect thing to wear on a 7+ hour flight from DC to Paris. First, though, I took it out for a spin on a beautiful day in Washington, DC down at the Tidal Basin.

For my day out at the monuments I paired the jumpsuit with this sexy Mesh With Me Bra and a pair of heels, but on the flight I wore the Lightly Lifted Bra because it give so much support with minimal fabric and simple straps. In fact, one of the tips I got from my time in France was to always wear bust cream and a bra at night so I wear this sports bra to bed!

Galeries Lafayette

WHAT I WORE: tip to toe!

For the final post in my series on the Paris Beauty Tour I offer you the piece de resistance...Galeries Lafayette. For any serious shopper a trip to Paris is NOT complete without a stop at this mega Department Store; its like visiting New York and going to Bergdorf Goodman. You can even do all of your souvenir shopping here and head to their dedicated tax refund office (if you spend over 176Euro in the same store on the same day you receive a 12% refund on your purchases) so you can avoid the long lines at the airport.

As part of the Paris Beauty Tour we got a VIP beauty tour of Galeries Lafayette; that's our group entering through the VIP entrance and receiving a VIP Guest card, which extended a discount to us through the rest of 2014.

That neon sign hanging from the beautiful Galeries Lafayette stained glass ceiling changes regularly. For Christmas an Christmas Tree will be hung upside down and a Noel Monster will decorate the ceiling.

We had a private session with Dior Beauty where we learned about some of the exclusive scents available only in Paris.

Black Rose Precious Face Oil

We met with the lead rep from Sisely who shared with us that the company is still family owned, a common theme in the French Beauty industry. Each counter we visited had prepared gifts for us including deluxe samples of their most popular products.

Our rep from YSL talked to us about the most popular makeup shades worn by French women... bright red for the lips and dark black around the eyes. We all left Paris wanting to wear thick lines of kohl eyeliner.

My hands down favorite beauty counter we visited on our VIP tour was L'Artisan Parfumeur. We learned about all of their intoxicating scents as well as their unique amber balls. I found my signature scent here...can you guess what it is? (Leave your guess in the comments)

Galeries Lafayette allows upcoming designers to showcase their pieces in Labo Mode (Style Lab) and if they are successful they will get their own in-house boutique. I wanted to blow all of my cash on some of these pieces...imagine buying a Marc Jacobs piece when he was an unknown!

Each x Other

And of course Galeries Lafayette is an excellent place to find luxury designers in Paris.

There is even a museum inside of the grand magasin. Its a peaceful place to rest in between shopping and there are some great tongue-in-cheek art pieces featuring fashion and household items.

And then there is the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette with its specatular views of Sacre Coeure, the Paris Opera House and the Eiffel Tower.

We were very lucky to be visiting Galeries Lafayette on the week their foodcourt and homegoods store was opening. These were previously two separate stores, but have now been combined into a massive department store of their own filled with macaron stands, sit down restaurants and counters to buy everything from fresh butter and loose spices to knifes and ceramic dishes. There was even a stiletto made of chocolate!
